Thomas Edison State University FAQ
Through NJCTL’s partnership with Thomas Edison State University (TESU), students can apply credits from NJCTL physics courses toward a regionally accredited master’s degree at TESU and/or have the option to have the courses transcribed for collegiate credit on a TESU transcript.
CREDIT TRANSFER FAQs
- WHAT IS CREDIT TRANSFER?
- Credit transfer is the procedure of granting credit to a student for educational experiences or courses undertaken at one institution that can be used toward a degree program at another institution. In this case, credits from NJCTL courses can be applied toward a degree program at TESU.
- HOW MANY CREDITS CAN I TRANSFER TO COMPLETE ONE OF TESU'S DEGREE PROGRAMS?
- Students will be able to apply up to 12 NJCTL graduate credits to a TESU master’s program, provided the grade received for a transfer course is a B or better. Click here for additional credit transfer information.
- WHAT TESU DEGREE PROGRAMS ACCEPT TRANSER CREDIT FROM NJCTL?
- NJCTL graduate students’ transfer credits are transferable to the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (Learner Designed Area of Study) or Master of Public Service Leadership (Learner Designed Area of Study) programs at TESU.
- WHICH NJCTL COURSES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR TRANSFER CREDIT?
- All physics courses offered by NJCTL are eligible for transfer.

CREDIT TRANSCRIPTION FAQs
- WHAT IS CREDIT TRANSCRIPTION?
- The procedure of documenting college-level learning gained through other sources onto an official university transcript. This learning can include military experience, professional licenses, college proficiency examinations, or college-level corporate training programs. In this case, credits from NJCTL courses can be entered onto a transcript issued by TESU.
- WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR CREDIT TRANSCRIPTION?
- Teachers completing NJCTL's graduate courses may earn credits through this partnership. Students wishing to transcribe credits with TESU should create an Individual Learner Account (ILA).
- WHAT COURSES CAN BE TRANSCRIBED WITH THOMAS EDISON STATE UNIVERSITY?
- All NJCTL physics courses can be transcribed for credit on a TESU transcript. Click here for a chart showing the NJCTL credits that are eligible for credit transcription with TESU.
- WHAT IS THE COST OF CREDIT TRANSCRIPTION?
- The current fee of $400 for the ILA is a one-time cost to students and is good for a full year of transcription so a student can use the service multiple times over the course of a year.
- WHAT IS THE PROCESS TO TRANSCRIBE CREDITS?
- 1. Ensure that the receiving institution’s academic policy will allow the transfer of each credit.
- 2. Complete your NJCTL course.
- 3. Create an Individual Learner Account (ILA) and pay the fee to transcribe credits with TESU.
- 4. Email registrar@njctl.org and indicate that you have registered with TESU to transcribe credits.
- 5. Upon receipt of your email, NJCTL will verify your course completion and grade to TESU.
- IS TESU ACCREDITED?
- TESU is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Learn more about TESU’s accreditations and licensure.
- HOW MAY I USE THESE GRADUATE CREDITS?
- In some cases, credits transcribed with TESU may be used to move on district salary guides, satisfy state requirements for continuing education, and/or to earn a new subject-area endorsement, or towards an advanced degree. Check with your district, state, or prospective graduate school in advance to determine if TESU credits will be accepted.
