MET6103: Field Experience in P-3 Core Content Areas I

Course Description: This is the first in a two-course coached field experience sequence. During this course, candidates will gain a deeper understanding of curriculum and assessment in P-3 core content areas (including English, mathematics, social studies/history, and/or science) and will demonstrate their ability to teach and assess these courses in a manner that is developmentally appropriate to their setting.

Prerequisite: PSYC6000 (Complete Modules 1-4 at a minimum)

Corequisite: MATH6410 (Enroll in before submitting the 4th Video)


MET6105: Field Experience in P-3 Core Content Areas 2

This is the second in a two-course coached field experience sequence. During this course, candidates will continue to deepen their understanding of preschool school through grade 3 content (including English, mathematics, social studies/history, and/or science) and instructional strategies to effectively teach in early childhood classrooms.  Candidates will also gain a deeper understanding of the role of families and communities.


MATH6410: Foundations of Teaching Mathematics I

This course is the first in a two-course series on foundational mathematics for early childhood educators. In this course, candidates will build their underlying mathematical conceptual knowledge. They will also learn about the domains of mathematics and mathematical practices, and how these are developed at the early childhood level. Candidates will also learn to integrate literacy skills in the mathematics classroom, and also how to integrate mathematics skills across the curriculum.


MATH6412: Foundations of Teaching Mathematics II

Course Description: This course is the second in a two-course series on foundational mathematics for early childhood educators. In this course candidates will learn to meet young learners where they are; including the use of assessment to identify gaps and remediation strategies that work. Candidates will also learn the tenets of cognitively guided mathematics instruction.


SCI6205: Teaching Science and Social Studies in the P-3 Classroom

Course Description: This course focuses on foundational understanding of science and social studies instruction in the early childhood classroom, including domains of the subject areas and best practices to teach them to children. Integration of literacy skills in science and social studies instruction are also addressed.
