ELA6310: Foundations in Teaching ELA I
Course Description: This course is the first in a two-course series on the foundations of ELA for early childhood educators. This course focuses on building foundational knowledge for early childhood educators in the areas of concepts of print, listening & speaking, phonemic awareness, phonics, word study and spelling instruction.
ELA6312: Foundations in Teaching ELA II
Course Description: This course is the second in a two-course series on the foundations of ELA for early childhood educators. This course focuses on building foundational knowledge for early childhood educators in the areas of fluency, leveled reading, vocabulary, comprehension and writing.
ELA6314: Foundations in Teaching ELA III
Course Description: This course focuses on supporting diverse early learners in the ELA classroom. There are two areas of emphasis: 1) supporting those who are English language learners and 2) identifying students who are in need of remediation (both in early literacy and speech/language). Candidates will learn strategies for assessment, how to interpret/analyze these assessment results, and to plan appropriate strategies to support these diverse learners.
