West Virginia Teacher Certification Mathematics (5-Adult) Program

This program is designed for those with any bachelor's degree who are interested in earning a WV teaching certificate in Mathematics (5-Adult). This WVDE-approved program is 100% online and asynchronous.



To enter the program, applicants must:

  • Be 18 years old
  • Be a United States citizen or hold a valid Permanent Resident Card, Employment Authorization Document (EAD), or work permit issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a minimum 2.5 GPA, or with a qualifying GPA exemption made permissible by West Virginia Board of Education Policy 5202 (such as those established in the WV Licensure Testing Directory).

NJCTL Tuition: $195 per credit

No fees or textbook costs.

While taking the above courses in the indicated sequence, complete the following requirements to earn initial teacher certification in West Virginia.


  • Pass the Praxis CORE Academic Skills Exam (CASE) or fulfill the West Virginia Board of Education Policy 5202 Pre-Professional Skills Test requirement through alternative means (e.g. demonstrating requisite SAT or ACT performance, bachelor’s degree with GPA of 3.0 or higher, master’s degree, etc.).
  • Pass the Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching exam (#5624).
  • Pass the required Praxis II exam for Mathematics (#5165).
  • Pass the mandated WV background check to apply for certification.
