It’s the Time of Year When Young Minds Race to the Summer Ahead…

We’ve all been there—those last weeks of school when seemingly every student has already left for vacation—at least in their minds!

One of the most effective ways of bringing the focus back to the classroom is to incorporate an Engineering Design Challenge at the end of the school year.  This can be the perfect time to incorporate hands-on activities that will cover the Engineering Practices of the Next Generation Science Standards.

NJCTL includes engineering labs in our elementary and middle school curricula. Here are a few examples:

Get Us Out of Here (1st grade)

The Three Little Pigs (2nd grade)

     Building Bridges (K-5)

Teach Engineering: Better By Design (8th grade)

Please send photos and descriptions of your engineering labs to jen@njctl.org. We would be happy to share your great ideas with teachers on our Facebook and Twitter feeds.  We can’t wait to see what your students create.
