100Kin10 Summit: Answering the Nation's Call

“Remember, every new STEM teacher we develop will give 30 or 40 people a year an opportunity for an entirely different future.” President Bill Clinton inspirationally remarked as he wrapped up the recent 100Kin10 Summit on April 25th.

Michelle Lageman and Janine Caffrey represented The New Jersey Center for Teaching and Learning and joined over 260 100Kin10 partners including Teach for America, DonorsChoose.org and the National Academy of Sciences for an exciting day of workshops and presentations.

The Summit also celebrated introducing over 40K excellent new STEM teachers to America’s classrooms since 2011 – an accomplishment in which CTL has played a key role. The goal established by President Obama: “100Kin10” is to introduce another 60K STEM teachers to America’s classrooms by 2021; so the initiative is on track to succeed with this remarkable accomplishment.

Of the many meaningful presentations from Dr. Ed Rogers, Chief Knowledge Officer at NASA, who talked about improving communications; to Carmen Medina who spent 32 years as a CIA Analyst and talked about how cultural change often begins from the bottom up. She encouraged all of the attendees to: “think on the edge,” a great message for us all.
