The science applets in CW 3 and CW 4 do not work well.

Thank you for reaching out with your question. I just loaded the applets and had no problems with them. May I ask what specifically is happening when you attempt to use them?

This unit was very unorganized. The worksheets and labs were not very useful.

Thank you for reaching out with your input! We are in the process of reviewing many of our units to make them better. If you have any specific ideas or suggestions, we would love to hear them as we value teacher feedback.

Slide 95 the equation is labeled wrong. Also it should be presented in conventional format of Q = mc∆T. I understand the section is on specific heat but if the expectation is to set an equation = to c, it still isn't derived correctly. The homework classwork packet is unrealistic in expecations. There are many applets and interactives but without consistent computer access, we end up skipping these pages. The pages where the students are answering questions in complete sentences and also solving problems should be formatted to match the other units so that there is minimal confusion on both the teacher and student end. I find I am picking and choosing questions on the fly, rather than simply assigning the homework for that lesson.

Slide 95 has the labels now corrected on it and it has been reposted. We will be reviewing the entire classwork and homework packet and making adjustments. As of now, we have removed Part III in classwork #1 because the link is not working. One thing we have done, is we added a SMART Notebook presentation posted in the classwork and homework section. This has the applets to Classwork #1 right in the Notebook file, so that teachers who do have limited computer access would be able to have the applets up front on the board.

my colleague informs me that the applets for the classwork and homework on convection conduction and radiation do not work.

Melissa Axelsson • 3 years, 1 month agologin to reply

I assume you are talking about the ones that are there for classwork #3. There are two and I just tried both and they are working for me. Please let me know the error you are experiencing and I the type of computer, operating system and browser you are using and I will trouble shoot the problem for you.

Hello. We are also not able to to open the science applet for #3 on Classwork #3. I even attempted on my desktop and have the same difficulties. My desktop is a Dell Precision T1700 with an Intel Core i7 using Windows 7 Professional and a 64-bit Operating system. Our school laptops are similar but are i3.

The type of file it attempts to open up is .swf

Rebecca - you can download a free swf player at this link: http://www.swffileplayer.com/ That will let you be able to use the applet. - Melissa

One more observation. The equation for calculating Thermal Energy on slide 39 is incorrect? Isn't it suppose to be Kinetic Energy + Potential Energy = Thermal Energy? On the slide it shows Kinetic Energy + Potential Energy - Thermal Energy.

Melissa Axelsson • 3 years agologin to reply

Rebecca - you are correct it should be an equal sign. Looks like it got resized and turned into looking like a minus sign. It is now fixed and the corrected file is uploaded. - Melissa
