Until recently, a national curriculum in the United States did not exist. Today, the implementation of Common Core Mathematics is under way and has already been adopted by 43 states. Therefore, adoption of a national standard rather than a local standard seems more appropriate. Use of these standards, along with common assessments aligned to them, permit educators to collaborate and drive student achievement as a team.
Further, PMI and PSI also align with Advanced Placement (AP) exams in mathematics and science. AP, designed by the College Board, preceded any national curriculum. It serves students for the following reasons:
AP provides a standard metric
It is recognized by K-12, colleges & universities, parents, and students
It is correlated to international competitiveness
It gives students access to top colleges & universities, as well as scholarships
